Hannah Marie Jaques
Hannah is a newly admitted lawyer who graduated from Suffolk Law School in Boston in 2024. There, she focused her studies on the intersection of the legal and health systems. She especially enjoyed courses on mental health law, medical malpractice, FDA law, and biomedical law and public policy. She helped Professor Marc Rodwin as a research assistant on topics such as the Inflation Reduction Act and Medicare drug prices during her second year. She also helped him with research on patents, FDA drug applications, end-of-life decisions – including decisions to forgo treatment, and gene therapy. During her third year, she participated in the National Health Law Moot Court Competition with Professor Maritza Karmely and Professor Renée Landers. The question that year was whether children can recover in wrongful insemination cases when the doctor’s office is also in bankruptcy proceedings.
In the past, she has worked for Absolute Title, a title company located in Bedford, New Hampshire, and Velico Medical, LLC, a medical device firm in Beverly, Massachusetts. She began working for Marcotte as a legal intern in May 2023 where she fell in love with plaintiff’s work. After she graduated from Suffolk and passed the Bar in Massachusetts, she returned to Marcotte as an Associate. She enjoys working on everything from car accidents, trip and falls to worker’s compensation cases.
Hannah went to college at University of Rochester in Rochester NY where she double majored in history and bioethics. In history, she received highest distinction while also receiving high distinction in bioethics. Hannah also participated in several extracurriculars including Ethics Bowl and the Journal of Undergraduate Research (JUR). At JUR, she started as a content editor but became a managing editor in her last year of college. Additionally, Hannah volunteered at KidsThrive585 from late 2018 until 2022 compiling information about local programs. KidsThrive585 is an organization dedicated to spreading awareness about local programs available in the Rochester community to help kids grow and succeed. KidsThrive585 is run by Dr. Meghan Lasaponara, a local pediatrician born and raised in Rochester, New York who began KidsThrive585 when she was in medical school. She began KidsThrive585 when she noticed that many people in the local community were unaware of available local resources. Today, KidsThrive’s website offers information on a wide range of topics, including resources for addiction, asthma, mental and behavioral health, and many others.
During college, Hannah did research on various subjects, including: The Democratic Republic of the Congo and the International Criminal Court; Yellow Fever in the Nineteenth Century: A Study of Health Care and Human Rights; and finally, Women in the 1990’s AIDS Epidemic. The latter was the subject of her senior thesis for bioethics for which she received research honors.
Hannah grew up in New Hampshire with her four younger siblings. As a child, she enjoyed being outside, from simple walks through the woods to hiking. To this day, she still enjoys being outside and tries to get out as often as she can. In her spare time, she also enjoys crocheting and spending time with family and friends.
